Before entering private information such as passwords or payment details, look for the padlock symbol after the web address or 'https' in front of the web address in your browser.

Think before you click

Cover your webcam
If you're not using your webcam:

  • unplug it
  • cover the lens
  • point it at a blank wall.

Check your privacy settings

SAFER INTERNET DAY

This years' theme was Together for a better internet.

How does the internet affect your day to day life and your friendships online?

In class we discussed how we use the Internet to communicate, in particular how our actions can make others feel.

We looked in detail about written communication and how what we write can be viewed, by the person receiving it, in different ways.  We talked about not being able to read peoples facial expressions or body language and we can't hear their tone of voice to know if they are joking, when we read a message.  To help our friends, we need to STOP and THINK before we type anything and ask ourselves:

  • Why am I sending this message and who am I sending it to?
  • Would I find this upsetting?
  • Could this be unkind?
  • Would talking to the person be a better idea?

We decided to make a pledge, thinking about how we can make the Internet better.

The UK Safer Internet centre designed a quiz outlining different scenarios and how best to respond to them.  Give the Quiz a go and let your class teacher know how you got on! Take the Friendship Quiz here
